Cutest Kid Contest Winner by Shelly Perkins Photography of Oklahoma
This summer Shelly Perkins Photography ran a Cutest Kid Contest for ages newborn to 12 years old. We had many emailed to us as well as some who posted their images on our Facebook page. (Facebook us at Shelly Perkins Photography)
Meet Miss Brynley. She is our WINNER for the Cutest Kid Contest. There were so many adorable children entered in the contest. It was so hard for myself and my other professional photographer buddies to choose the winner. There was just something about Brynley's spark that came through her entry photo. She is six months old and bound to be a star. She can already add Winner to the Shelly Perkins Photography Cutest Kid Contest to her achievements.
If you missed the contest this summer, I would like to announce a NEW CONTEST coming soon. Watch for the info this week. Shelly Perkins Photography is the proud sponsor of the Oklahoma Metro kids magazine, AmeriKidz Cover Contest. There will be two age divisions for ages up to twelve years old. We'll give you the info on how you can enter your snapshot (no copyright photos accepted). Each of the two winners will receive their own Magazine Cover on an upcoming issue. The magazine covers will be shot by Shelly Perkins Photography of Oklahoma City, specializing in children's photography. So grab your camera and take your kiddos out this weekend. Capture those adorable faces (and enjoy some family time too) and get ready to enter your child or grandchild in the AmeriKidz Cover Contest !

Moving my Daughter to College
Although we have had some hard times over the past couple of weeks, losing my step-father, we have also had some wonderful things happen as well. My oldest daughter, Courtney, started her freshman year at college. I'm so proud of her. Her father and I helped her move. Wow, I didn't know one teenager would need so much stuff.
I'm so proud of her and at the same time, I am still astonished that the time has gone so quickly. I look at her baby pictures and think "What happened? How can she already be starting college?" I'm glad I've been able to record so many moments on film so she may share these images with her children. I believe when we make a portrait, we are recording a moment in time. We are preserving a memory and recording a life lived. Time goes by so quickly and just as my daughter is growing up, your children will too. Make an appointment with a professional photographer, whether it is me or another photographer, to have a portrait made of your child. It will be something that you will treasure for all of your life.

Goodbye to my Step-Father
I'm sorry I haven't updated in a while. My step-father passed away. Our family, especially my mother, is experiencing such a loss. We had his funeral on Monday, which was a very lovely service. I know that he had accepted Jesus as his personal savior and lives in Heaven today. When we have a loved one pass away, it's hard to let them go. However, we can find comfort in knowing they are no longer in pain and are walking streets of gold with our heavenly father. When we make portraits of our family and friends we have reminders and memories of the times we cherish and can pass these on to future generations. I'm glad that I was able to make a portrait of my mother and my step-father.

Attending Professional Photographers Convention
I've had the greatest time attending the PPO Convention which is the Professional Photographers of Oklahoma Convention in Midwest City, Oklahoma. It is an annual event where all professional photographers from around the state get together to compete in a print competition, attend classes from world famous photographers, see the latest and greatest photography gadgets at the trade show and enjoy the company of other photographers from around the state. Scott, my husband, was able to attend the banquet with me. It was lots of fun and somewhat like the Academy Awards for the professionals competing. I purchased some amazing new photography products and software which I can offer to my customers and friends. I always try to stay on top of the latest and the greatest so I can offer the hottest trends. However, I will always be true to my style and will always offer traditional portraiture as well as some funky and fresh photography as well.

Baby Emma from Texas by OKC Baby Photographer Shelly Perkins Photography
I just returned from a quick trip to the Dallas area for a photo shoot with one month old, Baby Emma. I just had to share a glimpse of her. She's such a beautiful baby and I feel so blessed to have photographed her.
Newborn babies change so quickly and the best time to get these little squishy, sleepy baby portraits is the first ten days after they arrive on Earth. Although Emma is a month old, she cooperated, slept and made some great expressions for us to capture. When we are on location, we like to record at least a few images in their rooms or space they share with their siblings. These become very special images because this is their room and their special place to be a baby. When Baby Emma grows up she will be able to see the room where she slept as a baby and learn more about herself. Every family should invest both money and time into their baby's first portrait. This time goes by so quickly. Don't forget to capture this special time before it's too late.
