Mommy-To- Be in 6º Oklahoma Weather

I wanted to share a few images I was privileged to make of this beautiful mommy-to-be from Edmond, Oklahoma. I met up with Dallas for a few pregnancy photos about two weeks before her sweet little baby boy's arrival, on what just happened to be one of the coldest days of the year here in Oklahoma. We made a few images inside to capture her precious growing belly and show her beautiful glowing smile. We also wanted to capture a full length shot to show off her baby belly while still being able to sport her stylish boots. When looking at the image, viewers can't tell it was a piercing cold 6º. Yes! SIX DEGREES! Oklahoma has the most unpredictable weather ever which can change in a matter of hours. This day the wind chill was negative but we really wanted to get the shot with the light snow from the evening before glistening off the water. We drove over to our location, I left Mommy-To-Be in the car with the heater running full blast, got out into the cold, scouted the exact place I wanted to make the shot, metered the light and knew exactly what I wanted the final image to look like before we put Dallas in place. We took our shots in about 30 seconds and were pleased with the results. I'm looking for our next planned photo shoot to introduce everyone to Baby Sawyer.

Oklahoma Road Crews Remove Bridge as OU Sooners Game Ends

The Oklahoman is reporting I-235 will close Saturday night (September 6) at 9:00 pm to Monday morning at 5:00 am. Those traveling through the state may want to change their course after leaving Saturday night's football game when the Sooners take on West Virginia.

It's interesting that this bridge has already been closed for the last few months, yet some of the busiest traffic in the state occurs during the same hours as the Oklahoma Department of Transportation will be detouring traffic elsewhere. Fans driving back to Edmond or other locations north of Norman who normally take I-235 after home games, may want to plan an alternate route to avoid the detours and huge lines of traffic.

BOOMER.

Moving my Daughter to College

Although we have had some hard times over the past couple of weeks, losing my step-father, we have also had some wonderful things happen as well. My oldest daughter, Courtney, started her freshman year at college. I'm so proud of her. Her father and I helped her move. Wow, I didn't know one teenager would need so much stuff.

I'm so proud of her and at the same time, I am still astonished that the time has gone so quickly. I look at her baby pictures and think "What happened? How can she already be starting college?" I'm glad I've been able to record so many moments on film so she may share these images with her children. I believe when we make a portrait, we are recording a moment in time. We are preserving a memory and recording a life lived. Time goes by so quickly and just as my daughter is growing up, your children will too. Make an appointment with a professional photographer, whether it is me or another photographer, to have a portrait made of your child. It will be something that you will treasure for all of your life.

A shout out to Mindi & Keith.... Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your special day. Also, thank you both for your service in the military. Be safe and God bless.

Oklahoma Photographer ~ Shelly Perkins Photography featuring beautiful blue-eyed Faith

I just had to give a sneak peak of beautiful little Faith. I was so privileged to photograph her and her mother. Faith has the most amazing blue eyes. She was a little shy at first but when she found out that we were just going to play and have fun, she opened up and I was able to make some amazing images of her. I hope you enjoy.

PPO School with Don Dickson for Shelly Perkins Photography of Oklahoma

WOW! My D-Squared class speaker is now with "the" Don Dickson from Plainview, Texas. He is currently serving as the President of the Texas School of Professsional Photography and will be serving as next year's National President of the Professional Photographers of America. What an honor to study with Don. I had several "light bulbs" go off in my head during his class, which even brought me to tears.
Thank you to all those who worked behind the scenes to help make this week happen. Doc Cope, Wayne Reese, Jon Smith, Veronica, and my list could go on and on. At times I felt like I was at boot camp. We shot outside a lot in 100 degree temperatures and not always in the best lighting situations. However, this was to make us better photographers. I always want to stay on the cutting edge of technology and what's current in photography. This week at PPO Photography School has truly been a blessing to me. I've met new friends, saw old friends and really believe God is blessing me and showing me ways to pursue my craft to honor him.

PPO (Professional Photographers of Oklahoma) Photography School Continues for Shelly Perkins Photography

Wow, what an intense week of photography already! I am having the greatest time at the Professional Photographers of Oklahoma Photography School. My current instructor, Don MacGregor, is an amazing environmental portrait artist who typically is commisioned for $5000 for a master portrait. He is from Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada. I'm learning so much and feel very blessed to have met and studied with him.

BABY GRAYSON by Oklahoma Newborn Baby Photographer Shelly Perkins Photography

Here's a sneak peek of this cutie, Baby Grayson. Amidst all the rain and flooding around the Oklahoma City metro area on Monday, we still managed to get photos of this adorable little guy. Newborns change so quickly and we wanted to catch him while he was still new to the world.

By the way, if you are having a baby soon, keep in mind when scheduling your newborn photos, to do this within the first 10 days of his or her birth. Babies change so quickly. Soon after birth, they figure out they are free and can move and stretch around. Once they have found they are no longer curled up in the womb, that time is lost, forever. So no matter who your favorite photographer is, call them and schedule your portrait while you're still pregnant. A good photographer will rearrange some time if your baby comes a little sooner than expected. ;0) Those babies have minds of their own.

NEWBORN BABY PORTRAITS by Shelly Perkins Photography of Oklahoma

I'm doing a whole series of newborn portraits with eggs and little nests. The best baby portraiture is made when a newborn is under ten days old. They're still new and squishy. They are easily bended and molded and they don't mind a bit. If you're interested in my making your newborn baby's photograph, call me at 405.229.2671 or send me an email at perkphotography@aol.com. Let's make something for your family to cherish for years to come.

Forever Photography by Shelly Perkins

I shoot a Very LIMITED number of weddings per year. For many years, I shot weddings every weekend and I no longer do that.
The weddings that I do shoot, I try to capture moments that will be special to the couple because these are their forever photography images which will be passed down for generations.

Krissy & Steven were married in Oklahoma City. Krissy is a teacher and lives in North Carolina while Steven resides in Ohio. They chose to get married in Oklahoma where Krissy grew up and had a beautiful intimate ceremony. I was very blessed to be part of their special day.

SARAH & ERIC'S BRIDAL PORTRAITS- Forever Wedding Photography by Shelly Perkins Photography

These photos are of Sara Phillips and Eric Butts. Most were taken at his grandparents house and stable house (which is so cool, by the way). I had so much fun making the photo with the bride chasing after the groom with a rolling pin. I'm glad that were game for my crazy idea. This is a fantastic couple whom I look forward to making many more portraits of as well as their own babies some day.
